(February 2011) AFIN Helps Feed Hungry Children in Zambia. Below is a letter we received from our partners working in Zambia. We are so grateful to be blessed with generous donors who help us fulfill our mission. Thank you for your support!

Hi Brenda,

The money from A Friend in Need that we had spoken about has now been used.  It was used for Makululu; to cover their feeding program in October 2010.  This was so important for them in Makululu.  They were caught at a time in-between funds and were without food to give the kids in October.  With the money from A Friend in Need we were able to cover the feeding for the month of October until the new funds were sent in.  We are all extremely grateful for your contribution, it got the children through a desperate time.

Makululu is doing very well.  The children are being well cared for, they have a new care centre, a new garden and a hammermill on the go.  So they are in a very exciting time.  Thank you again for filling the gap, your contribution was extremely valuable.  I have attached a few pictures of the children at the feeding point.  Take care, hope you are well.

(December 2010) Working to fulfill our mission to help provide 5 basic human rights: food, shelter, clean water, health care, and eduction to indiduals and communities who are in need of them, A Friend in Need, Inc. has started another community outreach program called Heat from the Heart.

Heat from the Heart is a voluntary program for contractors, churches, schools, businesses, distributors and manufacturers. Each participant plays a role in making the program work. The reason Heat From the Heart has been established is because poverty is on the rise in Wisconsin and there are needy people who cannot afford to fix or replace their heating equipment. The stark reality is they come home to a freezing house and try to survive with blankets, ovens or space heaters. None of which are a good or safe alternative. Imagine children coming home after school having to battle freezing temperatures because the furnace doesn’t work. Heat From the Heart is an independent program that seeks out volunteers to help those in need. Each volunteer has a different role to play.
